New Prague Community Education Youth Basketball

Recreational level basketball for kids in grades 3 through 6 is offered each year during November through February, and for grades 1 & 2 in March each year. The basketball program is based on the philosophy that "if you register you practice and play", with the volunteer coaches working under the direction of a Coordinator to provide age-appropriate basic basketball skills, drills, position play and FUN! The programs are not highly competitive but rather focus on player development and enjoyment of the game.

Information for the grades 3 though 6 Youth Basketball program is in the Fall Community Education brochure that is mailed to all district residents in early September. Registration forms are handed out in the schools in mid-October.

Information for the grades 1 and 2 Youth Basketball program is in the Winter brochure that is mailed out in early January. Registration forms are handed out in early February.

Summer Basketball Camps are also offered each summer. These Camps are in the New Prague Summer Times brochure that is mailed out in early April.

Grades 3 and 4. Practices are once a week for 7-9 weeks depending on school calendar. No games against other communities' teams, but "game scrimmages" the last night of their practice schedules (time clock, referees, etc.) for parents and family members to enjoy and for the kids to "show off" their skills.

Grades 5 and 6. Practices are once a week for 10-11 weeks. Games are played only on four Saturdays (every other one) in January & February, two games/Saturday [8 total games]. Games are with teams from other recreation/Community Education programs in nearby communities.

Grades 1 and 2. Practices are once a week for four weeks in March. No games, and no "game scrimmages"-the focus is on basic skills and rules and improving existing skills.
